Apple defends against MacDefender
In uncharacteristic fashion Apple has released an update against the latest variant of the MacDefender virus, we now know that it was not included in the security update released earlier this week. Apple released an update to the Xprotect malware definition last Thursday. It detects the variant, known as MacGuard, or OSX.MacDefender.C, from what we gather via Intego’s Mac Security blog.
Apple were slow to respond initially for a few weeks regarding the MacDefender virus. It's AppleCare service staff were instructed not to help Mac users with the MacDefender virus or confirm their computers had been infected. Now, after issuing a fix to the MacDefender virus, Apple responded almost immediately to the new variant threat. But in typical Apple fashion, it did so discretely.
